Grace was 18 months when she started complaining that her wrist hurt when wiping her hand and when we put her shirt on. We thought she broke her wrist and went to the doctor. We got an x-ray which showed no fracture. After a week she was still complaining and we saw an orthopedic doctor which also saw no fracture but to be safe put her in a cast. We did cast on for two weeks off a week and then on two more weeks. We even tried physical therapy for weeks.
I will never forget the time they told me to stretch her wrist out in the warm bath, I heard this awful cracking and she just screamed. Then after weeks of therapy she started complaining her big toe hurt. Then I asked if this could be arthritis, never really thinking it could be true.
So one month before she turned two years old the rheumatologist told us she had polyarticular JRA. After having her wrist injected and both her ankles we started with methotrexate and I have to say at the age of three she now is doing very well. You would never know she has arthritis she is one tough girl, with three older brothers she really holds her own!
