Living with a Loved Ones Arthritis

Today 46 million individuals suffer from the pain of arthritis.  That means one in five people, including someone’s mother, father, or child, is living with arthritis. Not only do people with arthritis feel the effects of this chronic condition, their loved ones also feel the strain. Today, we are speaking with Krista McGlone, mother of Liam McGlone, the 2009 Arthritis Walk Youth Honoree, on her perspective of living with a loved one’s arthritis.

  • We know that juvenile arthritis affects 300,000 children (or one in 250) between the ages of infancy and 17. Liam was diagnosed as the age of four, how does arthritis affect Liam’s daily life?

  • I understand Liam and both of his brothers have now been diagnosed with arthritis.  What obstacles do you face as a parent caring for a child with arthritis?

  • What advice can you give parents of children with arthritis?

  • How do you keep Liam and his brothers physically active?  What activities are they able to do?

  • How does participating in the Arthritis Walk benefit Liam’s health?

  • What resources do you recommend for people caring for loved ones with arthritis?

Thank you Krista for taking the time to speak with us today. Your story is one many parents and other family of people with arthritis can relate to.
